The French poet and novelist Victor Hugo lived on Guernsey for 15 years, and his home (at Hauteville House) is well worth a visit.

Castle Cornet, which guards the entrance to Saint Peter Port, shouldn't be missed either. Today, it houses the island's new Maritime Museum.
